General Information and Policies

Philosophy

The Mayfair/St. Clair Swim Team is a neighborhood recreational league that was established to enhance swimming skills and foster fellowship, fun, team spirit, good sportsmanship and a sense of community with our neighbors.

Eligibility

  1. The swimmers must be between the ages of 4 and 19 on May 31, 2026.
  2. Mayfair/St. Clair homeowners must be full HOA members. For an additional fee, out of neighborhood families are eligible.

Registration Process for 2026

To practice and compete in the meets, you need to register with the Marlins and the Atlanta Swim Association (ASA).  You will also be able to register for both under the Marlin's website. Marlins registration begins in March.   ASA fees for 2026 are $50.00 per swimmer ($47.00 registration fee plus $3.00 transaction fee).

Marlins Registration Fee

Registration is completed online.

  • First swimmer (youngest member of family) – $105
  • Second swimmer - $95
  • Third swimmer - $85
  • Fourth swimmer - $75
  • Each additional swimmer - $65
  • Out of Neighborhood Registration - $40 per family

The cost of registration covers t-shirts, running of meets, official’s fees, coaches’ salaries, equipment, awards and social events. Our Swim Team does not receive any funds from the Mayfair/St. Clair HOA. We operate solely on registration fees; therefore, we sincerely appreciate your support.

Non-Resident Swimmers

Mayfair-St. Clair Neighborhood Associations Inc. (MFSC-HOA) is a Permanent/Covenant Membership Private Club.  All non-resident & outside members participate with the Mayfair Marlins and use the MFSC-HOA facilities as Guests of Full Member Families of the Mayfair Marlin Swim Team.  All participants are limited to the use and guidelines set out for Members and their Guest by the MFSC-HOA By-Laws.  Visiting swim teams are allowed use of the MFSC-HOA facilities as welcomed Guest of the Full/Permanent Members of the Mayfair Marlins and the MFSC-HOA.

As a reminder, non-residents of Mayfair/St. Clair HOA may NOT stay and swim after practice ends unless they are the invited guest of a MFSC HOA member and that member is present at the pool. These are HOA rules and we thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Discipline Policy

The safety of our swimmers is important; therefore, it is imperative that practices and meets are held in a controlled and safe environment. Please make sure that your swimmers are aware of the following discipline policy:

  1. Swimmers are expected to be punctual and remain in the pool area during their practices and meets.
  2. Swimmers are expected to be respectful of their coaches, volunteers and fellow swimmers.
  3. Swimmers are expected to be obedient of authority (coaches and team parents) and to behave safely.
  4. Profane language, indecent gestures, wrestling or horseplay are not acceptable.
  5. During practice, swimmers are not allowed in the pool area unless it is their scheduled practice time.

First incident:           Verbal warning.

Second incident:      Coach will take appropriate action; parents and board member are notified.

Third incident:          Swimmer is withdrawn from team.

Serious or Repeated Infractions

The coaches will attempt to deal with the situation, but if their efforts are unsuccessful, the swimmer will be sent home. The swimmer will not be allowed back to practice or to participate in any meets until their parents resolve the situation with the coaches and the Marlins Board.

Swimmers Who Are Constantly Disruptive

The coach has the authority to remove swimmers from the team who are constantly disruptive. Parents will be informed before this step is taken. There will be no refund of the registration fee if a swimmer is removed from the team due to disciplinary reasons.

Age Groups

The swimmer's age group is based on the age of the swimmer on May 31, 2026. For example, if a swimmer that turns 7 on May 31 would race as a 7 year old. But if that swimmer turns 7 on June 1, then he or she would race the whole season as a 6 year old.  This rule applies to all swim meets in our League. Here are the are six age groups:

  1. 6 & Under
  2. 7 & 8
  3. 9 & 10
  4. 11 & 12
  5. 13 & 14
  6. 15 & up

Swimming Up

In some cases, a swimmer may race in an older age group if the team needs swimmers in that age group. If that occurs, please help your child by explaining that the coaches may do this for swimmers who are capable of swimming with an older age group. Meets have been won with the help of children who have earned points by swimming "up". If the swimmer is capable, the coach may decide to let him/her practice with an older age group. This decision is strictly up to the coaches.

Practices

Practices are to help swimmers improve their strokes and learn new strokes - not a time to teach basic swim lessons. The ratio of coach to swimmer is typically too great to provide a one-on-one lesson experience. While we want to encourage younger children to swim and help them perfect their strokes, we do need to maintain a standard of eligibility to ensure that all swimmers receive adequate coaching.

Swim Wear

Swim attire for boys is plain black jammers or briefs.  Attire for girls is plain black one piece suit.  Suits can usually be found at Academy Sports, Dick's or online at Swim Outlet or the Swimshop.  If a swimmer desires to have our team logo embroidered on their suit, this can be done at Instant Imprints, 1540 Old Alabama Rd, Ste. 500, Roswell.

Swimmer Availability for Swim Meets

It is very important to know which swimmers will be available for each swim meet. At the beginning of the season, parents are asked to RSVP online for each swimmer indicating which swim meets he/she WILL be able to attend.  RSVP's that your child will be at a meet must be in the system by Monday afternoon prior to the meet.

Failure to follow this policy will result in disappointed teammates (in the case of a relay) and may cause the forfeiture of the privilege to swim in the next scheduled meet. This policy also applies to any swim meets rescheduled due to inclement weather. The time and date of rescheduled meets will be posted at the pool and in your weekly newsletter.

General Meet Instructions

  1. All swimmers should be checked in, have their swim caps on, and be ready to warm-up by 4:30 pm for all home meets and 5:00 pm for away meets.
  2. Everybody should know if they are working at the meet each week. If you have a last minute change where you are not going to be able to fulfill your assignment, please arrange for your own substitute. This will save many people last minute scrambling to fill the jobs. Volunteers should also check in upon arrival.
  3. Parents are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their children get to the ready bench in time for their event. Please listen out for your child’s event to be called and ensure that they get to the ready bench on time.
  4. Please write the swimmer’s name and age on their right shoulder. This will make it easier for ready bench workers to identify the swimmers. Their events should be written on either arm.
  5. Part of good sportsmanship is staying in the water until ALL swimmers in the heat are finished and shaking hands with your opponents and saying “Good swim” and NO trash talk.

Inclement Weather

Swim Practices will not be held if it is raining hard or if there is any threat of lightning. Land drills may be held if it is particularly cold. Parents must use their own judgment as to whether their child should participate in any given practice. Coaches or Team Parents will send a text/email alert through Swimtopia if practices are cancelled.

In the case of swim meets, team parents, head coaches and the starter determine if a meet will be delayed or cancelled. Please show up to a swim meet on time. We are required to wait one hour before making a decision about the meet.

Communications

All Marlin Messenger newsletters will be sent via e-mail. Please be sure to provide your e-mail address at registration. Directions to away meets are posted on the ASA Web site and prior to the meet.

Each family has a folder in the Swim Team Mailbox at the pool. Please check this box weekly to receive ribbons and other pertinent information that cannot be e-mailed.

You may send questions/comments to the swim team e-mail at [email protected].

Parental Responsibilities

  1. The Mayfair/St. Clair Marlins have a great reputation for its organized swim meets. This would not be possible without the volunteer support of the swimmers' parents. Parents will be asked to volunteer and will be assigned certain duties throughout the season. All parents will volunteer in some capacity.

  2. Please do not send sick swimmers to swim practice or swim meets. If your swimmer is sick enough to stay home from school, then they are sick enough not to attend swim practice or a meet.

  3. Parents are also responsible for seeing that their swimmers get to the Ready Bench in plenty of time for their race. Please watch the event board, listen to the announcer and know where your swimmers are at all times. This is not the responsibility of the coaches or parent volunteers.

Practice Protocol

  1. Be on time, have your goggles and be ready to swim!
  2. Swimmers should be good listeners and behave.
  3. Parents should stay away from the pool area! Please stay outside of the pool area completely to allow our coaches to run a smoother practice without interruptions.
  4. Do not talk to the coaches during practice. If you need to speak with them or have a concern, please wait to the end of practice to approach them.
  5. No children allowed in the baby pool during practice.

Stroke Clinics

If you feel your child would benefit from some extra time with one of the coaches, you can sign your child up for extra help with one of the coaches. Our coaches coordinate the clinics: the swim team is not involved. You pay them directly for these clinics. The swim clinics are optional but a great way to improve your strokes!

Reminders to Team Parents

  1. The Marlins Mailbox is a set of file folders with each family’s name. Please be sure to check it periodically before/after practices for lost/forgotten items, ribbons, etc. All unclaimed spirit wear will be put in the swimmers mailboxes.
  2. Send a water bottle with your child to practice - they can still get dehydrated (even in water).
  3. Please remind your children when walking or riding their bikes to the pool that they stay on the side of the road and be cautious when crossing the street.
  4. Families of MFSC must be up to date with their HOA dues to participate.

Team Awards Banquet

A highlight of the swim season is the Team Banquet, which will be held at the end of the season. There will be an additional fee for the banquet to offset the cost of the food. Trophies will be given to a boy and girl in each age group for the following:

Most Improved

Decided upon by the coaches, taking times and technique into account.

MVP

Most points earned for the team in the five dual meets. Relay points are not included in MVP calculation.

Marlin Award

Our most prestigious award, this swimmer best exemplifies team spirit, hard work and good sportsmanship.
